# Digital labor

> Agents sold as employees or a workforce you hire — adjacent to the workplace idea, aimed at a different buyer.

Canonical: https://chattic.us/wiki/digital-labor/

**Digital labor** is the enterprise pitch: don't buy a chatbot, hire a workforce. The unit of sale is closer to a seat, a team, or an hour of work than to a repository or a household computer.

The picture overlaps an [agent workplace](/wiki/agent-workplace) (there are workers; they do tasks; a human manages them) and diverges on purpose. Digital-labor products optimize for business process, compliance, and "employees you don't have to onboard in the building." They may never show you a Linux desktop.

## Why it sits next to us anyway

Buyers hear "teammates" and think "employees." If we only talk about workplaces and never name this idea, the market will file Chatticus under digital labor by accident — or under [software factory](/wiki/software-factory), which is the other loud category.

The distinction we care about: [named teammates](/wiki/named-teammates) on a [shared computer](/wiki/shared-computer) are specialists with desks, not a contractor bench. See [farms and desks](/wiki/farms-and-desks).

Vendor-by-vendor coverage of this category stays internal. Public coverage of a launch or a paper belongs on **Agent Zoo**, then links here.
